Nepal unTurned political turmoil

Nepal has recently been experiencing significant political turmoil. The situation has been marked by frequent changes in government and instability at both the federal and provincial levels. Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ is currently seeking a vote of confidence in the House of Representatives after losing support from key alliance partners. This move comes after a series of resignations and splits within the ruling coalition, requiring Dahal to secure 138 votes to maintain his leadership

At the provincial level, power struggles are evident. In Gandaki Province, Chief Minister Surendra Raj Pandey expanded his Cabinet in an attempt to solidify his position by including Rajeev Gurung, a gangster-turned-politician. Similarly, Madhesh Province saw a reshuffling of its Cabinet by Chief Minister Saroj Kumar Yadav, who dismissed three Congress ministers and included a UML member .

These events reflect the broader political instability that has characterized Nepal, with frequent government changes—13 governments in the past 16 years—contributing to the ongoing uncertainty .
